FIRE SAFETY IN UNDERGROUND PARKING, IS IT REALLY NEEDED?

Promat Middle East recently hosted a seminar on Fire Safety in Underground Parking  the event saw industry experts from across the region come together to hear  international speakers present a very “hot topic”.

As a first of its kind in the region, Promat Middle East were delighted to be joined by Training and Business Manager, Mr. Marco Antonelli. He explained the differences and complementary characteristics of Active and Passive fire protection systems, the dangers and considerations of fire spreading in confined spaces such as parking, the effects on steel and concrete structures, particularly emphasizing the dangers of the potential "spalling effect."

Mr. Antonelli elaborated on the way energy is released during a fire and so the hazards of combustible materials such as wood or plastic, how a vehicle releases heat and how a fire invlvong only 3 cars can be utterly fatal in just a matter of minutes.

Mr. James Beale of The Invicta Group-UAE commented "It was a really good and genuinely informative seminar, not a sales pitch". That said, Promat Middle East Technical Manager, Mr. Wouter Toonder shared with the attendees a selection of the many solutions that Promat could provide to address these problems before it happens. Ultimately saving lives while protecting property. 

To support the event, UL Principal Engineer Mr. Luke Woods asked the audience to consider how they select products for specifications and project requirements. Mr. Woods shared the new platform provided by UL for the industry enhancing standards throughout. 

Mr. Paul Donnelly, Technical Constructions Segment Manager expressed his delight in the depth and quality of questions that the audience had for the business, both during and after the seminar, he added "2018 will be an exciting year for us hosting more seminars on a wider regional basis and encourages anyone to get in contact if they have any specific topics they would like to understand more on".
